Aida is 82 and cares for 5 children, Emilida, (16) Regina (14), Andrea (13), Velina (10) and Maue (8).
A widow for several years, Aida’s only source of income for the household comes from her daughter Emilida, who keeps goats which share their 6x4m home. The whole family were living off less than £10 a month.
Thanks to the help of Love Saves The Day, through their support of LOVE SPECS, Love Support Unite volunteers were able to provide mosquito nets and a new tin roof before the rainy season started, giving much needed protection for Aida and those under her care.
For every elderly person we help with immediate assistance, we help set up a local woman with a small business, the profits of which go towards providing for the family in the long term. This is carried out through our micro loans project, and can be a business ranging from trading fish, to selling hardware; occasionally the villagers produce crafts – check out their dream catchers here.
Our aim is for every project our volunteers start, to continue to grow in the hands of the people that they help. If you have have ever thought of volunteering or have ideas to share please get in touch.
