Down With Devices
Could you go without electronic devices for a whole week?
Have you got what it takes to say goodbye to your smartphone, computer, tablet, games console and iPod, while raising funds to help children in need?
WHAT IS DOWN WITH DEVICES?
Could you go without electronic devices for a whole week?
Have you got what it takes to say goodbye to your smartphone, computer, tablet, games console and iPod, while raising funds to help children in need?
YOU DO? FANTASTIC! LET’S START CHANGING LIVES.
Down With Devices is a cool, new fundraising challenge for the whole class. We challenge you to give up your devices for a week, get your friends and family to sponsor you for your efforts, and see how much money you can raise to support children in Malawi!
You can record your progress in our downloadable diary. Make a note of what you’ve found difficult, what the challenge has made you think and feel, and, of course, track your success.
All participants who make it to the end of the weekend will be entitled to a certificate, a pair of paper Love Specs, and a Love Support Unite wristband.
WHY SHOULD YOU GET INVOLVED?
Studies have shown that most children in the developed world now use smartphones and tablets for a number of hours every day, and we are incredibly lucky to have access to these fun, timesaving devices, with information and entertainment at our fingertips. However, not everyone is so lucky. At Mkhunku School in Malawi, many children only eat one meal every three days, and have never even seen a tablet or a smartphone!
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN
By taking on the Down With Devices challenge, you could:
- Raise funds for children in Malawi, helping to provide basic necessities that all children should have
- Take time to appreciate how lucky we are to have our devices, and consider what life must be like for other children in the world
- Spend more time with your friends and family, not your devices
- Enjoy more time outside, having fun and getting healthy in the process
- Discover new hobbies and fun things to do
- Involve your friends and family to see who else can finish the challenge
- Get a sense of pride from completing a difficult challenge and helping others in the process
- Receive a cool certificate, a pair of Love Specs and a Love Support Unite wristband to celebrate your success.

We are incredibly lucky to live in a part of the world where many people have access to fun, timesaving devices like tablets and smartphones. Down with Devices is a productive, fun and healthy way to introduce your child to issues of global poverty and inequality. Choose Down with Devices and recapture family time this school holiday!
HOW DID DOWN WITH DEVICES START?
Down With Devices is a challenge created by children, for children. During the summer holidays, 9-year old Hector, an avid Minecraft and YouTube fan, decided to go without his iPod, phone, iPad, television, PC and Gameboy for a whole week – all to raise money for malnourished children in Malawi!
Hector and his best friend, Eddie, aimed to raise £50 through this thoughtful summer activity, but together, they raised an incredible £500! Their kindness and willpower blew us away, and they were surprised at how much they actually enjoyed the challenge! And so, Down With Devices was born.
To join Hector and Eddie and sign up by using the form. Nearly £4000 has been raised by just three schools already.
Almost Dangerous Sports Club
Get extreme and take a challenge in the stunning Norwegian wilderness for Love Support Unite.
Almost dangerous are a non-for-profit club who create unique adventures that challenge individuals to overcome themselves and conquer the Norwegian glaciers, mountains, rivers and fjords, for the purpose of raising money for Love Support Unite.
With the hustle and bustle of city life being all consuming, it’s hard to find like-minded people and the opportunity to experience, learn and take part in extreme sports. The club was formed to create these opportunities and also raise valuable funds for an incredible charity.
HOW IT ALL WORKS
The club organises the challenge on a cost basis, with all participants asked for a fixed contribution to the cost of the trip (the club makes no profit). Each participant is asked to raise a minimum amount of money through sponsorship for the charity.
The trip cost contribution includes: Transfers from Bergen Airport, all travel, accommodation, 3 meals a day, 3 social events (with a few drinks) and all activities during and around the challenge. Flights are not included.
Please note: all sports activities are operated by a separate, professional, highly experienced activity company based on the glacier.

Volunteering is an amazing experience you will never forget. Malawi is known as the warm heart of Africa due to its friendly atmosphere and welcoming people. If you have never volunteered before it is normal to feel excited and nervous. We have many years of experience managing volunteer programs in Malawi. We want your trip to be special and for you to have peace of mind that you are in safe hands.
There are so many reasons to volunteer with us. Everyone has amazing talents that can be shared with others. We want to help you shine and share your skills with other people in Malawi to help change and save lives. We believe volunteering has the power to make real differences not only in the country you visit but to help create a more connected, informed and empowered world.
Volunteering is rewarding, life changing and fun. It gives you the chance to make a positive change in the world, learn valuable new skills, gain knowledge and practical experience of project management. The experience of volunteering enhances your life whilst on your trip and also afterwards in adding value on your C.V. It is also a great opportunity to immerse yourself in another culture and learn about traditions, practices and lifestyles. Volunteering is a two way process; we want you to love Malawi and the people you meet as well as sharing your skills.
Amazing friendships are also made as a volunteer. Love Support Unite is a small charity and we want our volunteers to be part of our charity family. Your contribution is so important to us. We run a Volunteer Ambassador scheme so that connections made whilst volunteering develop into the future. We also offer you the opportunity to become a volunteer team leader helping to project manage and inspire others.
We encourage groups to come and volunteer together. Join up with your friends or colleagues to share a life-changing trip to Malawi.
Volunteer and see the change you can make in the world.
